Issues for reform

An initial issues paper, titled Aboriginal heritage legislation in NSW: Public consultation on issues for reform, has been published by the Office of Environment and Heritage to stimulate initial discussions for the first round of consultation. 

Get involved

There will be a number of opportunities to have your say at different times during the process.

Regular updates on regional Aboriginal community workshops will be provided. Advertisements will also be placed in state, local and Indigenous newspapers.

Consultation and communication will be undertaken through meetings, interaction with the Aboriginal Culture and Heritage Reform Working Party, interagency and stakeholder meetings, individual interviews, a web-based consultation forum, as well as invitations to all stakeholders to provide written or oral submissions throughout the process.

Circulation of the issues paper, background materials and comprehensive Aboriginal community and stakeholder consultation.

  • 25 facilitated regional community workshops
  • Concurrent roundtable meetings with industry and government stakeholders.

Collation of input and development of options
Collate and review Aboriginal community and stakeholder input and outcomes and develop options paper.

 

Next 3 months

 

Public consultation: Round 2
Second consultation on options paper.

 

Next 3 months

 

Recommendations and government decision
Provide Aboriginal Culture and Heritage Reform Working Party report and recommendations to Ministers for a government decision.
